Roundtable “Iraq after Elections: What Should We Expect Next?”

Prague Centre for Middle East Relations (PCMR) of CEVRO Institute organized a roundtable discussion entitled “Iraq after Elections: What Should We Expect?” with Hiwa Osman, an award winning Iraqi Kurdish journalist, analyst and commentator. The event took place on Friday November 19 from 11:30 to 13:00 at CEVRO Institute (Jungmannova 28/17, Praha 110 00).
The aim of this closed expert session was to discuss early parliamentary elections held in October 2021 in Iraq and its aftermath. We thoroughly covered the biggest electoral surprises, victors and losers within Shia, Sunni and Kurdish political scene. We assessed the quality of the electoral process itself as well as impacts of new electoral system on results and political blocs’ electoral strategies.
The event was held under the Chatham House Rules.
The roundtable was moderated by Tomáš Kaválek, Director of PCMR.
Hiwa Osman is an award winning Iraqi Kurdish journalist, analyst and commentator. He served as media advisor to President Jalal Talabani between 2005 & 2008. He is a leading commentator and analyst on the politics and media of Kurdistan and Iraq. He is often quoted by the media about Iraq and larger Kurdish affairs in the Middle East.
