Article “The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria: An Enduring Defeat or a Foreshadow of Return”

Tomas Kaválek of Prague Centre for Middle East Relations (PCMR) of CEVRO Institute published an article for The Conservative entitled “The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria: An Enduring Defeat or a Foreshadow of Return?” The organization is still active and capable of waging a low-intensity insurgency. The number of attacks may have declined in most areas of Iraq and Syria over 2020, but the group’s activity and apparent tactical goals are a foreshadow that it will continue to operate effectively and destabilise the region.
